Last week, the king of all-things-leaked, Evan Blass, shared with the world what the next model in the Pro line-up is going to look like. At first glance the device is striking; gorgeous even. You can see from the image above that Microsoft has kept very close to look and feel of their newest device, the Surface Laptop.
The updated colors on the fabric-enveloped keyboard make for a stunning machine worthy of the Surface Pro nomenclature. Even the stylus has taken on the new look. What you won’t find is a USB-C port or anything else fresh and new on the exterior. We fully expect the device to sport the latest Kaby Lake chipset from Intel but news on other internal upgrades remain to be divulged.
It is unclear whether or not the new device will be labeled Surface Pro 5 but according to Blass the numerical branding will be dropped in favor of simply Surface Pro. VP of devices, Panos Panay teased the new Surface Pro keyboard covers in a tweet earlier today from a work session in Shanghai.

Other speculations around the event include new Cortana-powered devices as well as more detail on the recently announced Fall Creators Update. All of this is fine and well but what’s the next big thing?
Microsoft’s recent “education” event pandered to the new Surface Laptop, a $999 USB-C-less device geared towards college students all cloaked in the introduction of Windows 10 S. Tomorrow, in Shanghai, the “next big thing” is surely something more awe-inspiring than a Surface Pro refresh. Whatever it is, we’ll be watching. Forgive me if I am not setting my hopes too high.
